Welcome to the new Socialist Republic of America.
Now I am really scared! I am reading all over the place that the house passed a bill “in the middle of the night” that will now change America forever toward a socialist country if the Senate follows suit. Yes I am talking about the Healthcare bill that just got passed by the House with a last minute high-profile visit from President Obama.
This $1.3 trillion-dollar bill would require individuals to buy health insurance.
This $1.3 trillion-dollar bill would also require medium and large businesses to provide healthcare to their employees.
This $1.3 trillion-dollar bill will make consumers buy their insurance on an exchange, which would include a public insurance option for people who do not have access to insurance through their jobs.
This $1.3 trillion-dollar bill states that Low- and middle-income families would receive government subsidies to purchase insurance.
This $1.3 trillion-dollar bill would be paid for through tax increases on individuals making more than $500,000 per year, as well as fees on medical providers.
This $1.3 trillion-dollar bill would prohibit insurance companies from dropping or denying coverage based on pre-existing conditions or cost of care.
This $1.3 trillion-dollar bill will in fact explode the deficit and give the federal government an out-sized and improper role in Americans’ health care decisions.
I agree with Rep. Joe Barton when he said, “I just don’t think it is right that in the guise of helping Americans, we’re telling Americans what they have to do.”
I also agree with Rep. Marsha Blackburn when she said that the federal government is not capable of running many of the programs it is already responsible for, and should not be trusted with more responsibilities for Americans’ health care: “We have talked to mothers who say, ‘You can’t even get the H1-N1 vaccine out there and you think you’re going to handle the health care for my children?’
I also agree with Rep. Phil Gingrey when he warned, “I have no doubt that although the American people may forget what was said here, they will never forget what was done here and who did it to them.”
Now why am I calling this now the New Socialist Republic of America? Because it is in fact one step closer to it and that is very scary. All this costly bill seems to be doing is giving the government more control of our money and health.
I am 51 years old divorced women and I am an independent struggling small business owner which only makes enough each month to cover my house payment, utilities and food. I had insurance on my husband’s insurance but lost that when he decided to have a girlfriend. I am in good health at the moment and I am not a burden on my children or anyone else at the moment. So where does this put me in the large scheme of things? Well first the bill states I will be one of those REQUIRED to buy health insurance. Well I have been looking into buying healthcare for months now and the lowest monthly insurance payment I can find for myself is the same price as my house payment. Well does that mean I have to give up my house? So where will I live? Ok so I give up my house I will still have to pay rent somewhere. Is the government going to make my house payments or pay my rent while I pay for their insurance payments? OK so now the government has taken my house away by forcing me to buy something I can’t afford.
I have a car and it is paid for so do I live in my car? Oh wait! I am a business owner so what just happened to my creditability? Well, that just hit rock bottom because you can’t run a legitimate business out of car and no one will hire me. So now I have lost my house and my business. My only choice now to survive is get a job in this already declining job market. I am 51 years old so the chances of getting a job are extremely narrowing. Oh and now that the medium to large Companies are REQUIRED to provide healthcare to their employees they are downsizing instead of hiring my chances of getting any job are now next to impossible. Ok guess it time to turn to the government for help. Unemployment’s out as I was a small business owner. Welfare’s out because I don’t have small children. I may qualify for food stamps.
So now I am forced to live in my car which I can only hope doesn’t get towed away because I can’t afford gas for it and I it is on someone else property. So if not the car I am now on the streets, but I can eat because I have food stamps, oh wait, don’t you have to have a address to get food stamps? Oh dear, well I got my healthcare insurance!! Maybe I can live in the hospital now because I will be too sick to do anything else.

If this bill passes the senate, then we will have a starting point. We have been so afraid to change our health care system that nothing has changed and that left a lot of people out in the cold. Now we will have to let our representatives know waht works and what does not inorder to fix this system to suit most of us. We will noever perfect it to suit all of us.

Well said Alleta. This bill is by no means perfect, not even close. There are plenty of things to criticize in it. But the folks who are making ridiculous claims about “socialism,” and scaring Kathleen, have obviously not read the bill. The scare-mongering about passing bills “in the middle of the night” is just plain absurd. The entire debate was televised on CSPAN for goodness sakes. I watched the whole thing.
SPOILER ALERT: The richest 1% of the country still has its hands firmly grasping the wheel of government Kathleen, so you can rest easy in your bed tonight.
The insurance companies and their shareholders still come out on top. They are the big winners in this bill, but the “little guy” won a couple of minor compromises too. Being able to get insurance with pre-existing conditions is huge. Anyone with cancer, diabetes, heart disease, or other chronic illnesses knows this.
Read the House bill, and then read the CBO and MIT analysis of the bill to get a better understanding of what it actually contains. Also, look at the Kaiser Family Foundation Web site for some good, neutral analysis of all the health care proposals, and some useful tools to figure out how each of the bills could affect you. You might find that your list of all the terrible things in the “$1.3 trillion” bill are not what they’ve been made out to be by those people who have been scaring Kathleen so much.

Hey Frank! Nice to see you again.
I think the US Federal Government and Wal-Mart are right up there with your list
1.8 million Federal civilians
1.5 million US military
0.7 million Postal Service
1.8 million Wal-Mart
So, the real question is . . . what does that mean?

Kathleen Evans3:53 pm
So Bridge what you seem to be saying is the richest 1%, the Insurance companies and preexisting condition people all have it made with this bill but I still see nothing that helps the middle of the road people that are just barely making it now. People like me that will have to pay for something they can’t afford.
And Alleta you think it is ok that this bill does not work for eveyoner as long as someone gets what they want? and you think we should fix it after it is law? So why not fix it right the first time before we spend trillions of dollars for a screwed up law and it hurts people than it helps.
And Lisa that picture will be many more people in America if they pass into law what Bridge says is for the richest 1%, the Insurance companies and preexisting condition people

Socialism is for the lazy, the uneducated and a few powerfull individuals in charge… I will never ask for something for free, I only ask for the chance to earn it.

It won’t matter Cap and Trade and healthcare are gonna bankrupt this country any way you slice it. You all will be bitching cause your out of work and if you do have a job your taxes will be through the roof. I want to keep more than a few cents on the dollar of what I make. O by the way, the Government never fixed a law after it was passed. So don’t hold your breath and Bridgid I did read the bill, the whole damn thing, it suckssssss

Kathleen and Frank
You both have strong feelings about “socialism” but you have not read the bill or the impartial analysis of the bill.
This bill requires people to purchase insurance, it doesn’t give it away “for free.” The insurance companies (those bastions of socialism!) benefit immensely from this provision. And, as is the case now with employer-provided insurance, the government will continue to provide subsidies and tax breaks to employers who provide insurance for their employees. I have yet to hear of a company turning down these tax breaks or subsidies because they have such strong allegiance to the free market and unbridled capitalism.
Meanwhile, back in the real world . . .

We’re borrowing much more from the Chinese and spending it on Iraq and Afghanistan.
Two laws that Congress repealed come to mind immediately: Prohibition and the Glass-Steagall Act. I’m sure a Google search will bring up more examples.

Yes Bridge lets get back to the Real World.. and you keep stating it… This bill requires people to purchase insurance
and the insurance companies benefit!
Now if I can’t afford it why should I be forced to buy it?

Rod Zagala4:51 pm
Ahh Bridig Yes they repealed two laws one was terrible guess they should have never implemented it and the other my have helped stop some of the financial crisis from happing. Nice job congress and yet here we are again with another bad law. I know you’ll be the first to complain when your pay check goes down but what the heck you can’t have everything.
O by the way I think you’ll love it when the govt. starts telling you what kind of car to buy or house or whatever so it will be green

Finally! This is criticism of the bill based on fact. And I agree with you, up to a point.
Why should the government force anyone to do anything? Are there situations when it would be in the best interest of the citizens as a whole, such as instituting a draft in time of war? Is there a threat to the “general welfare” of the nation posed by people choosing not to purchase health insurance? If so, does the threat require the drastic measure of an individual mandate?
These are the real, crucial points that should be discussed.

Bridgid, You say choosing not to purchase health insurance well that is not the case for some people like me. I would love to have healthcare but the fact is I just cannot AFFORD it but the government is now going to say. So what if you can’t afford it just buy it anyways or we will penilize you somehow. That is just plain not right and no matter how you suger coat it it still is just plain not right. Find another way to solve the problem.

An Indianapolis doctor’s letter to Sen. Bayh about the Bill
(Note: Dr. Stephen E. Frazer, MD practices as an anesthesiologist in
Indianapolis, IN )
Here is a letter I sent to Senator Bayh. Feel free to copy it
And send it around to all other representatives. — Stephen Fraser
July 23, 2009
Senator Bayh,
As a practicing physician I have major concerns with the
Health care bill before Congress. I actually have read the bill and am
Shocked by the brazenness of the government’s proposed involvement in the
Patient-physician relationship. The very idea that the government will
Dictate and ration patient care is dangerous and certainly not helpful in
Designing a health care system that works for all. Every physician I work
With agrees that we need to fix our health care system, but the proposed
Bills currently making their way through congress will be a disaster if
Passed.
I ask you respectfully and as a patriotic American to look at
The following troubling lines that I have read in the bill. You cannot
Possibly believe that these proposals are in the best interests of the
Country and our fellow citizens.

getting paid for THAT job!)
Page 430 Lines 11-15: The Govt will decide what level of

therapy. (Which means Govt will insert itself into your marriage even.)
Page 494-498: Govt will cover Mental Health Services including
defining, creating, and rationing those services.
Senator, I guarantee that I personally will do everything
possible to inform patients and my fellow physicians about the dangers of
the proposed bills you and your colleagues are debating.
Furthermore, if you vote for a bill that enforces socialized
medicine on the country and destroys the doctor-patient relationship, I will
do everything in my power to make sure you lose your job in the next
election.
Respectfully,
Stephen E. Fraser, MD
