Government Stimulus? Political or Real

government-stimulusOk, I don’t even know where to start! Maybe with the question, “what is a stimulus?” is it taking advantage of a economic crisis and implementing every government program you ever wanted? Is funding programs already in place but not funded or under funded?  Is it funding every piece of legislation you ever wanted to pass but couldn’t through with unique legislation? Is it funding them under the guise of stimulating the economy?

If you read the “SUMMARY: AMERICAN RECOVERY AND REINVESTMENT” at http://appropriations.house.gov/pdf/PressSummary01-15-09.pdf you will  see how and how much is going to be spent in the stimulus package. If you look at  http://www.recovery.gov/Pages/home.aspx it will show what is being spent and when.

I really don’t understand what long term permanent jobs will be created from this bill except an additional twenty five thousand plus (to date) government jobs. The public works jobs will create temporary jobs and hopefully the economy will recover in the mean time.

I do wonder what is the “stimulus” of all the environmental money being spent though. Is it funding the superfund that should have been funded every year? Is it funding the completion of the BRAC clean up that should have been properly funded when the closures took place? Is it studying climate change that should be funded under unique legislation?

as I looked through this document it occured to me that many things are funded without any plan for implementation. Look at the example of 19 BILLION for creation of electronic medical records, are we going to add to this amount when healthcare reform is passed?

I am not saying a lot of these programs aren’t needed, what I am saying is that the government does not appear to have a good track record of managing the programs already in place or the money already allocated to these programs.

All I am saying is look a history, listen to current events and draw your own conclusion.

All I am saying is that this country is very deeply in debt and every additional dollar we borrow or print is adding to the debt.

All I am saying that we as citizens should be involved, monitor everything our government does and let them know we are involved.

If we as citizens let the political organizers, special interest groups, talking heads and biased news outlets or do this for us and we believe the outcome will be in our best interests we are fools.

No matter which side of the issue you are on WRITE YOUR REP. let them know how YOU feel, not the aforementioned or the pollsters.
