Government Scam at work – Cash for Clunkers Scam

We all know that the Government has spent $3 Billion of our tax dollars on the Cash for Clunkers program and now we are hearing they want to spend another $2 Billion for the same program.

 I don’t think the Government knows how to use a calculator because the figures just don’t add up.

 First let us take some fuel figures:

A clunker that travels 12,000 miles a year at 15 mpg uses 800 gallons of gas a year.

A vehicle that travels 12,000 miles a year at 25 mpg uses 480 gallons a year.

So, the average Cash for Clunkers transaction will reduce US gasoline consumption by 320 gallons per year.

 Now those figures sound great because we can save 320 Gallons per year per car traded.  So far all sounds good.

 Now add that they claim 700,000 vehicles for the program

 So that’s 224 million gallons saved per year.  Wow that sounds great too!

 Now if you convert the 224 million gallons into barrels that would be a bit over 5 million barrels of oil.  Then convert the 5 million barrels of oil at $70 per barrel costs is about $350 million dollars.  Wow that sounds wonderful $350 million dollars saved!!

 Wait ………….

 Now go back up and look at what the government spent to save that $350 Million!!

 The government paid $3 billion of our tax dollars to save $350 million.

 350,000,000 This is 350 Million

 3,000,000,000,000 This is 3 Billion

 So let’s start removing some of those zeros to get some numbers that John Q Public can relate to.

 0.35 is what we get when we remove 10 zeros from 350 Million

3000 is what we get when we remove 10 zeros from 3 Billion

 Now divide both numbers by 35 then you get

 .01 and 85.71

 So that means for every $85.71 of your tax dollars the government saved one penny for this program.  It can also be said they spent $8.57 for every dollar they saved.

 I’m pretty sure they will do a great job with our health care, though, and why should they?  It is not there money their spending!

 And if you believe that about the healthcare…..  I got a bridge I can sell you for 3 Billion that you can save 350 Million by purchasing it!
