Another great way to explain Socialism

A college student of a well to do father was coming home for a visit.  The college student considered herself to be very much a liberal.  She was very much in favor of higher taxes to the rich to support more government for the poor.  Her conservative father would always tell her it was just a redistribution of wealth. 

After a few college lectures the student felt ashamed of her father’s conservative.   She felt he was being just selfish and only had a desire to keep what he thought should be his, instead of benefiting society.

The college student decided to challenge her father on his objection to higher taxes on the rich and get him to see the importance of more government programs. So she told him, “You don’t need to spend money on a large house, car, furnishings and dining out when there are people who need higher wages and better food.”

To that her father just said, “Welcome to Socialism.”

Then the father asked her, “How are your grades in College?”

Frustrated that her father changed the subject she said, “I have a 4.0 GPA, which has been very hard to maintain.  And I don’t even get to go to parties or get to spend time with my boyfriend because I have to study so much.”

Then the father asked her, “How is your roommate doing on grades?”

She replied, “My roommate is barely making it, she never studies, she goes to all the parties with her boyfriend.  And her GPA is only a 2.0.”

The father suggests, “Why don’t you go to the Dean and ask him to give your roommate one of your points so that you both can have a 3.0 GPA.  That should a fair and equal distribution of GPA.”

The college student yelled back, “That’s a terrible idea and how would that be fair?  I’ve worked very hard and spent a lot of time for my grades and my roommate has done nothing and she plays while I worked my tail off!”

The father simply smiles and says,”Welcome to Capitalism”
