Politics is emotional for me: Kirron Kher

“I am basically a social activist. I want good governance from which all should benefit. It is an emotional reason that brought me to politics,” Kher said here. Also describing herself as an entertainer, the actress said she would continue to do both, politics and acting, side by side.

The wife of acclaimed actor Anupam Kher, she won the National Film Award for Best Actress for Rituparno Ghosh’s Bengali film ‘Bariwali’ in 2000. Popular for her supporting roles in films like ‘Devdas’, ‘Dostana’ and ‘Om Shanti Om’, the 55-year-old has also done theatre performances, besides having hosted television shows.

However, Kher is in no mood to contest elections. “I will not contest elections. I am not interested,” Kher, who had joined the BJP in 2009, told reporters here in response to a query yesterday.

Denouncing vote bank politics, she said, “What concerns one religion, concerns others also. There should be no division in society. A normal man wants development, food and a decent lifestyle”.
