Don’t let politics change you – clergyman
By Times Reporter
A NDOLA-based clergyman has advised Christian parliamentary candidates who have been adopted by their political parties to contest as Members of Parliament in this year’s elections not to allow politics to change them if voted into office.
Bishop Isaiah Chishiba, the senior pastor of People’s Pentecostal Assemblies of God (Zambia), encouraged candidates to remain true to the Christian faith even after being elected to Parliament.
Bishop Chishiba said this yesterday during a Church service before he prayed for the MMD candidate for Ndola Central constituency, Emmanuel Mulenga ahead of the 2011 general elections.
“Don’t let politics change you, but change politics. Politics has seen some believers change, but do not give away your Christianity once elected. Remain true to the Lord, yourself and family,” he said.
With another candidate from the same church a contender for adoption to stand for Parliament on an unnamed opposition party ticket, the prelate said the church would remain neutral.
Bishop Chishiba urged believers to contest the forthcoming elections, even as councillors, and prayed for wisdom, revelation and protection, saying politics was about people, whom Christ came into the world for.
