Chris Christie on same-sex marriage "I don’t compromise my principles for politics"

On Tuesday, “Piers Morgan Tonight” welcomes New Jersey Governor Chris Christie for a candid and revealing interview, during which the Republican discusses his views on same-sex marriage.

Reiterating his personal position that “marriage should be between one man and one woman,” Christie has vetoed a bill allowing same-sex marriage in New Jersey. But he’s encouraging the Legislature to allow his constituents to have the final say:

“Let’s put it on the ballot, and let’s let people decide,” Christie tells Piers Morgan. “And if the people of New Jersey – as some of the same-sex marriage advocates suggest the polls indicate – are in favor of it, then my position would not be the winning position. But I’m willing to take that risk, because I trust the people of the state.”

As the riveting exchange continues, Morgan asks Christie about the prospect of his personal views jeopardizing his long-term aspirations:

“You would never change your mind about this?” questions Morgan. “I would not compromise my principles for politics. You’re saying ‘will it become politically unpopular to have the position I’m having.’ If it does, so be it,” insists Christie. “I don’t compromise my principles for politics.”

Tune in to “Piers Morgan Tonight” Tuesday at 9pm ET/PT as the New Jersey Governor details conversations between himself, and his gay friends, and explains why his personal position is not bigoted.
