Andy Rooney, RE-TAKE AMERICA

We as a nation should be tolerant, we as people of the world should be tolerant, we need to stop imposing our will on others. My rights end where yours begin, but that doesn’t mean a loud vocal minority should control the silent majority. Come on people stop the nonsense exhibit some tolerance and common sense, not to mention a little respect.

Andy Rooney and Prayer

Andy Rooney says:
I don’t believe in Santa Claus, but I’m not going to sue somebody for singing a Ho-Ho-Ho song in December. I don’t agree with Darwin , but I didn’t go out and hire a lawyer when my high school teacher taught his Theory of Evolution.
Life, liberty or your pursuit of happiness will not be endangered because someone says a 30-second prayer before a football game. So what’s the big deal? It’s not like somebody is up there reading the entire Book of Acts. They’re just talking to a God they believe in and asking him to grant safety to the players on the field and the fans going home from the game.
But it’s a Christian prayer, some will argue..
Yes, and this is the United States of America , a country founded on Christian principles. According to our very own phone book, Christian churches outnumber all others better than 200-to-1. So what would you expect– somebody chanting Hare Krishna?
If I went to a football game in Jerusalem , I would expect to hear a Jewish prayer…

If I went to a soccer game in Baghdad , I would expect to hear a Muslim prayer.
If I went to a ping pong match in China , I would expect to hear someone pray to Buddha.

And I wouldn’t be offended. It wouldn’t bother me one bit.
When in Rome …..
But what about the atheists? That’s another argument.
What about them? Nobody is asking them to be baptized. We’re not going to pass the collection plate. Just humor us for 30 seconds. If that’s asking too much, bring a Walkman or a pair of ear plugs. Go to the bathroom. Visit the concession stand. Call your lawyer!
Unfortunately, one or two will make that call. One or two will tell thousands what they can and cannot do. I don’t think a short prayer at a football game is going to shake the world’s foundations.
Christians are just sick and tired of turning the other cheek while our courts strip us of all our rights. Our parents and grandparents taught us to pray before eating, to pray before we go to sleep. Our Bible tells us to pray without ceasing. Now a handful of people and their lawyers are telling us to cease praying.
God, help us. And if that last sentence offends you, well, just sue me.
The silent majority has been silent too long. It’s time we tell that one or two who scream loud enough to be heard that the vast majority doesn’t care what they want. It is time that the majority rules!
It’s time we tell them,” You don’t have to pray; you don’t have to say the Pledge of Allegiance; you don’t have to believe in God or attend services that honor Him. That is your right, and we will honor your right; but by golly, you are no longer going to take our rights away. We are fighting back, and we WILL WIN!”
God bless us one and all… Especially those who denounce Him, God bless America , despite all her faults. She is still the greatest nation of all. God bless our service men who are fighting to protect our right to pray and worship God.

Let’s make 2010 the year the silent majority is heard and we put God back as the foundation of our families and institutions . And our military forces come home from all the wars.
Keep looking up.

I have been a voting member of the silent majority my entire adult life, now however it seems voting is not enough and being silent is a bad idea. This forum is an attempt to move the conversation from the kitchen table, friends and families to people who would also like to voice opinions and Participate in a civil debate.

This is in response to a statement made by, I believe, RodZ, that the health care letter written by Dr Stephen E Fraser made it to factcheck and there is no Dr Stephen Fraser. Go here: http://www.healthgrades.com/directory_search/physician/profiles/dr-md-reports/dr-stephen-fraser-md-97fa35e7

I totally agree with what was said, it is time to stand up and be counted. But the posting is actully an adaptation of the work of Nicolas Gholson in a piece he did on the prohibition of prayer at school sponcered sporting events many years ago. Please do some checking and you will find this to be true. I have nothing against Andy Rooney, and suspect he would not be above or afraid to make such comments, but in this case as far as I konw he did not

The piece is just fantastic, I love it and I think it is right on the money. We need more of this. Unfortunately it was NOT authored by Andy Rooney. I thought I should let you know in case you get back some sort of negative response. You can check this on this page

(When you get there, scroll all the way down almost to the bottom of the page and you’ll find the explanation). Any way, it doesn’t take from the fact that this is an amazing piece and I wish someone would read it or say it on national TV.

  1. [...] In short, this is the kind of emergency power legislation Americans are facing in March 2011. “There’s no question that what we see in Wisconsin, with the commission of a violation of the Open Meetings law by the Senate in failing to provide notice of their intention to pass a bill eliminating the right of collective bargaining represents the kind of lawlessness– of impunity–characteristic of tyranny. Since they control all three branches of government, they have reason to feel that they will never be called to account for their actions. The same or similar situations obtain in a number of other states, notably Ohio, Indiana, Idaho, and Michigan.” “But it is in Michigan that we see a more deadly form of tyranny that strikes at the root of the idea of the balance of powers that was built into our national Constitution. Briefly, the Michigan legislature has passed a bill–one hesitates to dignify it with the term “law,” since it is clearly an act of lawlessness–that would allow the Governor Evans to seize control of the government of a town or city, displace its mayor, school board, judges, and anyone else who stands in the way, and impose unelected corporate control–even foreign sovereignty– over matters ranging from school privatization to municipal courts . . . . The key language is this: “Sec. 15 (4) Upon the confirmation of a finding of a financial emergency, the governor shall declare the local government in receivership and shall appoint an emergency manager to act for and in the place and stead of the governing body and the office of chief administrative officer of the local government.” TAKING BACK AMERICA The movie, Taking Woodstock, is based upon a book from Taking Woodstock: A True Story of a Riot, a Concert and a Life. It “is a memoir describing the origins of the 1969 Woodstock Festival by Elliot Tiber with Tom Monte. It was published in 2007 by Square One Publishers, Inc., and was adapted into a movie of the same name by James Schamus, Ang Lee’s long time writing/producing partner. It was released in August 2009. Tiber is portrayed in the movie by Demetri Martin.” “The book describes Tiber’s involvement, as a young gay man, with the riots at the Stonewall Inn in New York City, and his key role in bringing the Woodstock festival to Bethel, New York.” For over a decade Tiber lives a “double life”—gay in the Village in New York City, and straight back at mom and dad’s in Bethel, New York. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taking_Woodstock_%28book%29 Perhaps, America, like Elliot Tiber, needs to come clean and stop living a double life—progressive in heart and soul while being adamantly pro-corporation when the tough gets going. In the movie, TAKING WOODSTOCK, “After the final day of the concert, Elliot packs up his life and says farewell to his father, after his father encourages him to strike out on his own.” His mom has indirectly supported him in this decision by showing him that she and her dad have been thrifty and can financially take care of themselves. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taking_Woodstock I would like the wealthiest patriarchs and progressives in America to encourage America in one voice to (1) get out of these foreign wars, (2) build a renewed and better society, and (3) reorganize the country and its constitutions for those living and future generations who have until now been given short shrift and no substantial pieces of th pie. HBO is ready to move on, America. I’m ready to move on, America. Outraged and creative citizens need to get it done this 2011. RETAKE WOODSTOCK! RETAKE AMERICA AND MOULD IT RIGHT!!!! Even Andy Rooney agrees with me. http://yes-23.com/lighterside/andy-rooney-re-take-america/ [...]
