food-substitutionCompanies change the foods so now nothing tastes as good as it did when I was young. (low fat Substitute, sea salt Substitute, sugar Substitute). This is all in the name of what is good for you like you can’t decide for yourself.  It is not uncommon for some of those who provide advice on nutrition to draw their credence from celebrity.

And so it started years ago… First with Grass-Fed Meat vs Grain-Fed Meat.  Grass-fed meat contains more antioxidants, omega-3’s, CLA, TVA, trace minerals, and vitamins than any other food, including conventional meat. The longer the animals were fed grains, the lower the quality of the meat.  The list goes on but basically the new way changed the way the meat tastes.  It is just not the same anymore, but do the big companies listen to the people? No they just say they are doing for the good of the people.

Next thing I noticed was the saturated fat, unsaturated fat, trans fat all geared to healthy eating.  But not only did they just inform us as to what they thought was health the so-called products of the unhealthy started to disappear off the market place.

My next is one of my biggest pet peeves.  Sea-Salt, yes Sea-Salt.  Sea salt is salt produced from the evaporation of seawater, rather than by being extracted from sedimentary deposits. It is used in cooking and cosmetics. Sea salt and table salt have the same basic nutritional value, despite the fact that sea salt is often promoted as being healthier. Sea salt and table salt contain comparable amounts of sodium by weight. The main differences between sea salt and table salt are in their taste, texture, processing and costs.  So now millions of products have changed over to sea-salt because it is cheaper and they will promote it as being healthier even though they have the same basic nutritional value.  It does not taste the same and it never will, but now all those chips or crackers that you loved to snack on do not taste the same.  I personally hate the sea-salt taste.  So leave my fast food fries alone I liked them better the way they were.

Now I find out that Nestle says it will cut sugar in its candies with new chemical formulation.  Sugar Substitute I tell you!  The new sugar modification comes as food companies pledge to cut more fat, salt, sugar and artificial additives from their products. Yes I know sugar substitutes have been around for years, but we had a CHOICE.

It is almost like being put on a lifetime diet.

Is it a wonder I like fruits and salads more and more now days?  They have not “YET” (that I know of) changed how those are grown.  Now I understand that if you’re a young adult right now no of this makes any sence because you did not grow up in a time where food was delicious.  Today it seems people are using more Spices or “HOT” stuff and I know why!  to cover the bland no nothing tastle of today’s foods.

P.S. I am not saying all food today is bad or bland, just saying we have no say on the good foods of the past lost forever!  What a shame!
